Longland Drive, Totteridge

A dated detached 1930's house in the affluent area of Totteridge and Whetstone in North London required a major overhaul and improvement to bring the property to current modern living standards.

The clients brief was to redevelop the property to provide additional bedrooms, improve the thermal efficiency of the house and utilising the existing attic space to create additional habitable rooms.

A detailed planning application was submitted to Barnet Council planning department for the proposal and was approved successfully at the first attempt.

The result of the proposal was to construct a side and rear extension, first floor rear extension and a loft conversion.  The rooms would increase from what was a 3 bed house into a 5 bedroom house of which two were provided ensuite bathrooms.  The front and rear gardens would also be overhauled with the garden returfed, new planting beds, patio area, garden office, cedar garden fence and a new driveway with new associated planting. The internal arrangement of the house was also reconfigured to provide proportionately sizes rooms constructed with modern building materials to improve sound insulation between each rooms.  All existing external solid walls have been internally insulated to improve thermal efficiency. The greatest transformation is the ground floor with a new plant room, WC, Utility, Cinema Room and a large open plan kitchen/dining/ family area with a full width sliding doors opening out to the rear garden.
